Healing through sun, fun at camp for kids with autism. Folly Beach -- Even though her autistic son was on a surfboard Wednesday with surfing legend Garrett McNamara, Jessica Miller admitted she was a little nervous watching them in shoulder-high waves kicked up in advance of Hurricane Irene.
"Both fell over and I was holding my breath until they both came up," Miller said. "It was nerve-wracking but awesome."
Wednesday was the fourth time her son, 7-year-old Grant Miller, has participated in the local Surfers Healing event, a day camp for autistic children founded by Izzy Paskowitz. Jessica Miller said Grant, who remembers all three previous camps, was so excited about Wednesday's that he didn't sleep the night before.
"This is a very important event not only for autistic kids. ... It's a reward for all the families," Miller said. READ MORE...
